A name here is yourname@satoshi.si: an address other people can use to find and verify your nostr key, and the key that lets you write to wss://nostr.satoshi.si. Payment is one-off, in sats, no subscription. Your name goes live the moment the payment settles.
A record in satoshi.si/.well-known/nostr.json that maps your chosen name to your
nostr public key. Anyone can then look up you@satoshi.si and get your key: a short,
human-readable, domain-verified identifier instead of a long npub.

This is the key your name will point to. It gets published in satoshi.si/.well-known/nostr.json, which is public by design. Your private key is never asked for and never leaves your device.
One and two character names are not for sale yet — they are being held back for a much more expensive tier. Brand names such as bitcoin, satoshi and lightning are reserved — write to one@satoshi.si if you want one of those. A name that is bought keeps working; there is no renewal.
